The government has now created a three-tier system for evaluating the COVID-19 risk in areas up and down the country, and you’ll likely be aware that Birmingham is currently in the “High” tier. This means that Birmingham residents are currently not allowed to meet with other households indoors, which includes indoor hospitality, leisure and retail.
We know how frustrating these measures can be, especially when they’re changing all the time, but it’s important that we do our best to keep to them so that we can continue to fight COVID-19 together. In light of the new measures, we want you to know that you can still socialise outside in groups of 6 (including people from different households!), and there are some wonderful places right here in Kings Heath that offer outside space to enjoy food and drink. Check them out below, and if we’ve missed any please let us know!
The Station Pub – 7 High Street
The team at The Station offer one of the cosiest beer gardens around! They’ve temporarily closed the kitchen, however you’re welcome to order food in and enjoy it in the pub. With live music on every week and a fabulous cocktail menu – The Station is one of our favourite places to enjoy time with friends and family whilst still staying safe. (If you’re planning a visit, please say hello to Buddy the pub dog from us!)
Loco Lounge – 32-34 High Street
We’ve all seen the charming seating area outside the front of Loco, but did you know that there’s an upstairs garden too? Our favourite lounge also has lots of deals throughout the week such as Tapas Tuesdays – 3 tapas and a glass of wine for just £10.95 from 5pm – and Tea Time Tipple – any 2 cocktails only £9.50 Monday-Friday 5pm ‘til 7pm. Plus some of the nicest homemade non-alcoholic drinks in town – we recommend the Rose Garden!
Fletcher’s Bar and Eatery – 7 York Road
The outdoor area at Fletcher’s is now heated! Seating available outside the front of the bar and the back, simply call 0121 443 4725 for bookings and enquiries. Lots of live music, jam nights and quizzes planned too over the next few months so keep an eye out on their social media!
Kitchen Garden Cafe – 17 York Road
Brunch with friends? Kitchen Garden has got it covered… literally! Our favourite little Kings Heath oasis has a new stretch tent in the garden with outdoor heating! There’s lots of live music gigs planned for the garden too. A few walk-in spots are available on a first come first served basis, but we do recommend that you book in advance by calling 0121 443 4725 as it’s a popular spot!
Poli – 21 York Road
We still can’t get over how lucky we are to have Birmingham’s best pizza joint right on our doorstep! Walk-ins are available, however if you’d like a spot outside the front (especially at weekends) then we’d recommend booking via their website here. There’s also a midweek deal offer running – Starter / Pizza / Side / Dessert for only £15!
Grace + James – 23 York Road
There’s always a fantastic atmosphere on York Road – especially now that it’s pedestrianised. Enjoy a glass or 2 with friends outside the front of Grace + James. To book in advance, email graceandjamesbooking@gmail.com.
Byzantium – 11 York Road

The Juke – 16 York Road
It’s an outside-only affair over at The Juke, walk-ins only, but tables are limited and the maximum party number is 4 so get there early to avoid disappointment! Also check out their Instagram page for some serious craft beer appreciation!
Coffee #1 – 13-15 Alcester Road
Take a seat and enjoy a warm seasonal hot drink out the front of this locally-loved coffee house. Pumpkin spiced latte anyone? Get their app for regular offers that you don’t want to miss!
Hare & Hounds – 106 High Street
While Hare & Hounds unfortunately remains closed for the time being, the team are working hard to reopen their doors again in the very near future when it is safe and sensible to do so. We’re thrilled to hear that Hare & Hounds has been supported by the Cultural Recovery Fund, and we absolutely can’t wait to see you all sitting on the benches outside the venue again, hopefully sooner rather than later!
