We were lucky enough to grab 5 minutes with the owner of Precision Imaging, Dave Smith, just moments before he went on holiday (this is no joke.) If you haven’t yet visited, Precision Imaging is situated on the High Street, near the Library, and houses a fantastic friendly team who deliver impeccable print services.

They offer a wide variety of said print services, from fine art and photography to printing for business and events. They also stock a range of products including; canvas, giclee printing, mounting, framing, posters, flyers, photocopying services – and if that wasn’t enough they also showcase amazing art and prints from local artists in store!

Anyway enough from us…

How long has Precision Imaging been established?

We have been trading since September 2011 but we traded as Canvas Frames up until May 2015, at which point we underwent a rebrand (we do much more than just canvas!)

What made you want to set up a printing business?

I had worked in the industry for 6 years and had always wanted to work for myself, so it seemed like a logical step…

Why did you choose Kings Heath?

It’s a diverse and vibrant place to live and work, I’m originally from Sutton Coldfield but I’m definitely a south-side convert. (Waaahheeeyyyyy)

What’s it like to be part of the strong community of independent businesses here in Kings Heath? Do you enjoy working in Kings Heath?

I love it and really feel part of the community, I really feel at home here and I feel KH is the perfect location for the business.

What sort of printing techniques do you offer at Precision Imaging?

Are there any more unusual services/techniques that you specialise in? We offer wide range of photographic and fine art print services, as well as a full copyshop service. We also print aluminium panels, we can print on foam board up to A0, we print pop-up banners, we have a wide range of flyers and business cards, the list is endless really. If you need anything printed just ask us – if we can’t do it we’ll know someone who can!

We love the local art and photography you have in store! Who is one of your favourite local photographers/artists that you work with?

We do a lot of work with Kirk Andrews who specialises in charcoal drawings of iconic musicians, his work is on display in the shop and at Kitchen Garden Café, and he’s just about to open a new gallery. Check him out here

You donated some wonderful prizes to our Capture Kings Heath competition! Is supporting local photographers and community events something that is important to you?

Yes, we work with lots of photographers and artists and we like to support them where we can. It gives us great pleasure to see our customers showcase their work and for them to get recognition. We always like to do our bit for the community.

What do you think sets you apart from the larger, chain printing companies?

We can be more flexible to adapt to different needs and work ridiculous hours to get everything done!

What’s next for Precision Imaging?

The business is continuing to grow and we are looking forward to the new challenges this brings. We are relishing the prospect of the run-up to Christmas which is always frantic but enjoyable!
