We all know that dads are the hardest members of the family to buy for, right? Their response is always “I don’t need anything” or “I have everything that I need”. To help with your Father’s Day gift buying struggles this year, here is a short gift guide to help you breeze through the day, because we just want to celebrate all those great guys as much as possible!

THE MUSICAL ONE

If you are buying for someone who loves music, we have plenty of ideas!

The Hare and Hounds (106 High Street) are hosting TWO gigs on the Sunday evening with Canaan Cox and Gypsyfingers. And the Kitchen Garden Cafe (17 York Road) down the road have an XOM Sunday Night Live acoustic night. Link for tickets are below.

If you can’t make it to either gigs, on the same road, Polar Bear Records (10 York Road) have got the best vinyl selection in town. Something dad can have for keeps and maybe you’ll find a classic record that he hasn’t heard in a while!

Or if your dad is more of a limelight kinda guy, then Fletchers (every 3rd Sunday of the month) hold an evening called “Disc Selecta” where you can bring your own vinyls and enjoy 10 minutes of fame! No experience necessary, if it’s on vinyl on 45 or 33 rpm then dad can be his own DJ!

THE VINTAGE ONE

Keeping it old school, have you checked out I Had One Of Those (31 York Road) recently? They’re not just a sweet shop, you can also pick up a retro board game or throwback game from the past that’s bound to delight!

Or if you’re looking for a hidden gem, why not have a browse around Top Banana Vintage (14 York Road) for some one-off garms! A good ole rummage and you could stumble across a gift that no one else will be picking up!

THE MODERN GENT

If he’s too difficult to buy for, then gift cards are a great option!

You could pamper dad and buy him a gift voucher from the talented guys at Black Market Barber Company (12 York Road) or if you would like dad to update his wardrobe without the hassle of paying for something that needs exchanging again and again, Burton Menswear (126 High Street) have plenty of vouchers to suit all budgets.

If your dad’s likes to invest in looking good, then look no further than our very own Honest Skincare (34 Poplar Road). They have beautiful and practical products that any father figure would love to receive! The charcoal soap, beard oil and pre shave oil gift set come highly recommended and remember all the products contain only natural ingredients.

THE DIY ONE

None of these ticking any boxes? Dad more of a DIY fella? Why not treat him to some Sunday project bits and bobs from either Topps Tiles (Unit 1 Findlay Road) or Homebase (Findlay Road). We know a DIY dad or two who would LOVE it if you suggested visiting one of those stores on Fathers Day to pick up a new drill!

THE FOODIE ONE

If none of the above tickles your fancy and you would rather spoil your dad to a day of eating and drinking, then you’ve come to the right

Got an early bird on your hands? Head to Bloom (32 Poplar Road) for a piece of art on a plate – an exquisite breakfast/brunch that you know you couldn’t make at home. A proper treat and guaranteed full bellies to start off the day. We recommend getting there as soon as it opens (10am) as well to guarantee a seat because this place is a staple Sunday favourite in Kings Heath!

Another great breakfast spot is Gorilla Coffee (1a/1b Drayton Road). And to celebrate Father’s Day, the lovely people at Gorilla Coffee will also treat your old man to a free beer! *(T’s & C’s apply) Kitchen is open 9am-3pm.

Coffee #1 (13-15 Alcester Road) are also holding a competition for Sunday where you can win coffee and a cake for your dad! Simply enter on their instagram post. Winner will be announced on the 15th. Good luck! https://www.instagram.com/p/ByNAjRqIZ2J/

Other food establishments in Kings Heath that are open on Sunday are The Station (7 High Street), providing classic Sunday roasts which you can wash down with cask ales. Or across the road is Loco Lounge (32-34 High Street) where the menu stretches from breakfast all the way to dinner time. They also have a pub quiz at 8pm if you want to finish the weekend with some trivia! Mezbaan (27-29 Poplar Road) are also still taking bookings for Father’s Day via 0121 441 2222, get in there quick before they book up!

If sinking a few drinks is more your kinda thing then you could always take dad to either Black Lab Lounge (100 High Street), The Juke Bar (16 York Road), Grace and James (23 York Road) or Fletchers Bar (7 York Road) to enjoy plenty of independently brewed ales and wines.

Hopefully there is something for everyone here, but whatever you decide to do, either buying a gift or just hanging out with your nearest and dearest, have a wonderful day! Dads and Father figures all around the world need celebrating and you know how they would like to do it best. Happy Fathers Day!
