There’s plenty to celebrate at Mathnasium Kings Heath, with local students achieving some fantastic GCSE results this year.

The centre, which opened in Kings Heath in January 2025, supported 23 students through their GCSEs this year – and 89% of them passed. Even more impressively, 42% achieved one or two grades higher than they were predicted.

There were some brilliant individual achievements too. One student moved from a predicted Grade 6 to an impressive Grade 8, while another pupil went from a predicted Grade 2 to a Grade 5.

For centre owner, Mehdi Bahramchoobin, it’s the progress behind those grades that really matters.

“It’s more important how far students have come and for some, progress has been immense over the past year. For that, we are incredibly proud.”

Mathnasium Kings Heath isn’t just helping students prepare for exams. The team also works with local schools, and develop bespoke learning plans that are aligned with the national curriculum. These sessions are designed to complement what’s being taught in school and the additional support means children can improve their understanding and confidence whilst achieving better grades.

And there are some encouraging results from Mathnasium’s wider UK network too. This year, 85% of Mathnasium students met or improved on their predicted GCSE grade, with half improving by a grade or more.

Across the UK, 90% of Mathnasium’s Year 11 students achieved Grade 4 or above, compared with 72% nationally, while 45% achieved Grade 7 or above, compared with 22% nationally.

The centre also reported that 63% of students who had been predicted to fail went on to achieve a pass.

But it’s not all about the grades

Mehdi opened Mathnasium Kings Heath after 12 years as an accountant, driven by his passion for education and seeing children succeed. His wife, who is a maths teacher at a local school, also helps students with exam technique.

The centre takes a personalised approach, creating learning plans around each student’s individual strengths and areas where they need a little extra help.

As Mehdi explains:

“Now it’s September, for some students this time of year can mean going back to school with a bump.  However, it’s important to remember that the new term also represents a great time to address any summer learning loss and take a fresh approach to maths… as understanding grows so too does confidence, problem solving and critical thinking ability.”

The centre has also had some great 11+ results, with 60% of its students awarded a place at grammar school last year.

But whether it’s a GCSE, an 11+, or simply feeling more confident with fractions, algebra or geometry, the team says it’s the progress along the way that matters most.

A big congratulations to all the students who worked so hard this year, and to their families, teachers and tutors for supporting them along the way! 👏
