December in Kings Heath – What’s On?

The faint jingle of bells can be heard, excitement levels are rising and there’s a festive feeling in the air as the spirit of Christmas sparkles throughout Kings Heath. With the 25th drawing closer there are plenty of fun festivities for all the family taking place in and around Kings Heath and we’ve got you covered with some of the best. So here is our list of 10 things to do in Kings Heath this December.

Hogwarts Family Day

Get ready for a fun-filled time of spells and spirits as the magic of Harry Potter comes to the All Saints Church on the 15th and 16th of December. On both Friday and Saturday from 7 pm till 11 pm for all you party savvy witches and wizards, be sure to attend Hogwarts After Dark for over 18’s, featuring; wand making, films, alcoholic potions and more! If you’re still learning how to master your magic and aren’t quite old enough to go to Hogwarts After Dark not to worry there’s something for the little ones too! From 10 am till 12:30 pm on the Saturday 16th get involved in the Hogwarts Family Day including; Quidditch, crafts, Olivanders, games, Honeydukes and plenty more magic moments to enjoy. Kings Heath Christmas Market

For two days on the 9th and 10th December the village square will be full of some of your favorite traders; from arts, to crafts, to food. There will be entertainment across the two day event as well as the chance to meet Santa, shop and try some delicious mulled wine. So pop down and get in the Christmas spirit! Magical Lantern Festival

After last years success the amazing Magical Lantern Festival returns to Birmingham this year it’s back and it’s bigger and better than ever. Open 5 days a week from Wednesday till Sunday, running till Jan 1st (excluding Xmas Eve and Xmas Day). Prepare to enter a mesmerizing wonderland featuring; larger-than-life lanterns in all shapes and sizes, bright colours, beautiful sculptures and much more. Not only will there be the insane lantern and light display but the festival will aso feature a food and drink area with bar, Santa’s Grotto, fairground rides for the little ones and a merchandise marquee where you can buy your own souvenir of the experience to take home. Christmas Films at All Saints

Popcorn, sweets, drinks, films. Do we need to say much more? On Monday 18th Dec All Saints Church will be one of of your favorite classic Xmas films and it’s up to you to decide what you watch. Christmas Craft & Mini Market

For the second year running the Baby Craft & Mini Market will be returning to Kings Heath Cricket & Social Club. Bring your little ones and get creative, there’s plenty of fun activities happening through the day such as; designing your own keepsake, taking part in your own Christmas photoshoot, soft play for the little ones and many more festive fun activities for everyone to get involved in. Christmas Artisan Fair

On Dec 6th join Kitchen Garden Cafe to get you Christmas gift sorted all in one place. With lots of stalls selling beautiful art from local artists as well as a gin tasting masterclass, hot spiced cider and food, wreath making workshops plus plenty more fun activities to get involved with. Swampmeat Family Xmas

Swampmeat Family Band will be leading the festive celebrations at Hare & Hounds with their alternative, indie rock sound on Dec 21st. Not only will Swampmeat be performing live but they’ll be joined by Independent Country, The Hungry Ghosts, Black Car and Killer Waves DJ’s. Doors open from 7:30pm with tickets costing £5 advance. Christmas Gift Showcase

Come and take a browse and try some sweet treats at I Had One of Those. On the 7th and 14th December the good folks at I Had One of Those are giving you the chance to pop into the store, try some products and have a glass of bubbly whist getting the Christmas shopping done. Kings Heath Festive Frolic

Featuring live music, street food, craft stalls, street performers and more on Dec 16th Kings Heath Community CIC are organising a ‘Festive Frolic’! Full of Christmas spirit and cheer the event, held at the Village Square, is all about bringing the Kings Heath community together for Christmas. Christmas Fares

This year both Colmore School and Allens Croft are hosting their very own Christmas Fares. On Friday 8th December Colmore’s fair will be open featuring; delish hotdogs, tip top pancakes, live performances, presents from Santa and more! Find out more here. Then on Thursday 21st Dec is Allens Croft fair featuring; gifts and food for sale, raffles, a tombola, activities for the kids, face painting, a visit from Santa plus much more. Christmas Eve Ride

We all know that to the guys and girls at Gorilla Coffee Cafe bad weather means nothing when there’s a bike involved and as the winter weather worsens ,to most it means staying inside as much as possible, but the cold is no match for the pedal power of GGC. To them it just means more and more cycling! On Christmas Eve be sure to get up nice and early and brave the cold to meet at GCC for 8:15 AM  for an 8:30 AM departure. The ride will last around an hour and a half to two hours and will finish back at the cafe to grab a pre-xmas drink. Check out the event here to find out all the details.
